France celebrates Epiphany on January 6th. Epiphany marks the day the three wise men arrived to Bethlehem. Whether or not you are religious, this is a holiday that most French speaking countries enjoy. The tradition is to create a "Galette des Rois" or "King Cake". The cake is a puff pastry with almond cream inside and a small tile or token of some sort. The person who is served the piece with the tile inside is the King for the day. This has been a tradition in France for several hundred years. Currently, the French president is served a 1.2 m in diameter galette on epiphany, although there is no tile in that one. This is also served on Mardi Gras or during Carnival. If you are curious about this tradition, try out this recipe with your family and friends.
